When this picture of the crossroads outside the Downs Hotel in Woodingdean was taken in 1937 it was a much quieter scene than today. Life was lived at a much slower pace.
Now traffic lights regulate the comings and goings along Falmer Road and Warren Road.
Woodingdean was just a few streets and many of the homes were little more than shacks.
Now it is a thriving suburb of Brighton and Hove with a population in excess of 10,000.
