The luxury property was built by father and son duo Roland and Sean Rigg over the previous three years.

In an interview with the Daily Mail, the Rigg family declined to give exact figures with regards to the cost of the build but confirmed the “sophisticated construction methods” meant they were three times the cost of a conventional build.

The property costs around £1 per day to run, as it was built to Passivhaus criteria, using green energy heating systems and air recycling.

Just over two miles from Three Bridges Station, the house has four bathrooms, 19 solar panels, three metre high doors and ceilings, resin floors and a main door with a fingerprint entry system.

Sean Rigg, who currently lives at the property, said the running costs of just over £1 a day is “when the panels are working well and cover all the hot water, lighting, and appliances”.

“Having never encountered Passivhaus construction before, I felt this added a new dimension to my building knowledge,” he said.

“The eco-friendly aspect was appealing and relevant to the time. Having previously completed a number of conventional projects, I realised that this was a bit more complicated. I decided to bring on my dad to help with his vast experience in the construction industry.

“After a lot of research, it was decided - albeit a huge challenge - the end product would be well worth achieving.”
