THE ultimate throwback night is coming to Brighton.

For one night only on Friday, November 29, fans of the 1980s will be able to don their legwarmers and travel back in time to sing along to popular anthems at the Theatre Royal with 80s Live!

The show promises a blend of pop and soft rock from live band Electric Dreams, who will perform classics by artists including Madonna, Wham, Duran Duran, Dexy’s Midnight Runners and many more.

The decade synonymous with synthesisers, electronic drumbeats and perm haircuts has been enjoying a resurgence lately thanks to the popular Netflix sci-fi series Stranger Things.

Sid Simms, producer of 80s Live!, hopes the show will be a hit with younger audiences as well as those who were there at the time when A-Ha and Culture Club were in the charts.

He said: “The thing about the 80s is there’s something for everyone.

“We have the rock genre featuring the likes of Bon Jovi, then there’s ska with Madness and Bad Manners, right through to the late 80s with Rick Astley and the New Romantic sound, like Duran Duran.

“We also have pop classics with songs like It’s Raining Men by The Weather Girls.

“It’s nostalgia right the way through.”

The show at Brighton’s Theatre Royal will be the first performance in a tour which will continue around the UK next year.

Sid said: “We thought Brighton would be the ideal place to kick off the party.

“It’s a real feelgood show and we are encouraging people to get dressed up for it.

“We have a cast of ten musicians and vocalists, but it’s very much an interactive show where we encourage the audience to get involved and dance along with us.”

Sid said he chose the 80s as the decade has an enduring appeal with music and fashion fans.

He said: “It’s my era, and a fantastic era for music.

“People had fewer inhibitions back then compared to nowadays.

“Some of the original artists are still touring, so we thought, why not put together a show which includes a whole bunch of them?”

“It doesn’t matter if you were around then or not – everyone loves a bit of cheese.”

The show will kick off at 7.45pm at the Theatre Royal in New Road, Brighton.

Tickets are available from £22.75, subject to a transaction fee of £3.65, and can be purchased over the phone on 08448 717650, or online at www.atgtickets.com/shows/80s-live/theatre-royal-brighton/.
