Major Tom is a bassett hound with the largest ears in the South East, and this the story of his quest to win Crufts.

His owner, Victoria - aka beauty queen Mrs Brighton - is also on a quest, to become Mrs England.

The two stories run parallel, interweave, and humourously mock our vanity and need to turn everything into a competition, while at the same time acknowledging how much fun that can be.

Vicky, with more costume changes than Liza Minelli, danced, cat-walked and linked the stories together effortlessly, while Major Tom laid on his bed, high on Smackos.

Film footage of the pair at various dog/beauty competitions made it clear that these bizarre stories had actually happened. Despite it's documentary style this was not a television pastiche and Vicky kept it live, especially when someone started eating crisps in the front row!

The production was slick while retaining a rough quality so vital to it's charm. Brighton Festival shows very rarely have a three or even two-week run, which can be a mistake. Major Tom would certainly have become a must-see show.
