Friday night saw Iggy Azalea perform an arresting gig to a packed and excited crowd at The Warren. The cosy venue, featuring a secret garden, haystacks and a snug bar, was a complete contrast to the Australian hip-hop starlet’s performance.

Her DJ’s introduction created commotion before she even took to the stage. Once she had, her trademark high ponytail and Gwen Stefani-esque looks grabbed the audience’s attention. Everyone was hyped for the event – there had been queues around the corner to get in.

It was only her lyrics which let her songs down. She twirled and yanked her blonde hair whilst spitting rhymes which were fast and fluid, but inane. Not that it seemed to matter. Playing songs from her first mixtape, Ignorant Art, and her latest single, Bounce, the crowd threw their hands in the air.

Described as hip-hop’s current taboo breaker, Azalea’s backing dancers then showcased their twerking skills. For those unfamiliar, twerking is a sexually suggestive dance move which involves a person vigorously shaking their hips and bottom up and down in a bouncy motion. Rather them than me.

For all that Azalea lacks in lyricism, her performance made up for it with style, energy and charisma. The crowd certainly had fun.
