EASTBOURNE Goes Live kicked off with a bang as hip-hop power duo Dan le Sac Vs Scroobius Pip descended on the Winter Gardens.
Accompanied on stage by all manner of props such as large biblical tomes, wide-rimmed glasses and a wingback chair, Dan le Sac grabbed the crowd’s attention with crisp and seamless beats while Scroobius Pip laid down clever rhymes you can’t help but empathise with.
Even a few minor technical hiccups that left Le Sac and Pip battling their own equipment could not drag the energy-packed performance down.
As Le Sac worked with the roadies and frantically tried to get his decks and laptop back online, Pip took the opportunity to lay down some impromptu spoken word.
The crowd’s enthusiasm did not dim in the slightest and as soon as the opening roll of The Beat That My Heart Skipped dropped, the evening was away.
Both have a charisma that is difficult to pin down – not swaggering rockstars but just a pair of blokes you’d like to have a drink with.
To take Pip’s own words from their track Stunner: “I ain’t saying you are perfect, but you are really, really good”.
