Kids' comedian James Campbell is a legend in our family. We’ve seen him four times now and every time he provides a great show for adults and children alike.

It seemed the entire audience were in agreement at his most recent Fringe show at the Old Market, Hove.

The sound of kids giggling uproariously is a wonderful sound and it must make Campbell a very happy man as he tours around the country doing his show and visiting primary schools.

His style appears to be haphazard and meandering, a little like Eddie Izzard, but his jokes and asides hit the mark every time. He talks to the children in the show throughout, incorporating them into his act by asking questions and often gently poking fun at their responses which they all find hilarious.

Campbell knows his market perfectly – pitching it well at kids and adults alike. He manages to combine silly stories which are accessible and timeless for all ages such as how to defend yourself against animals such as lions, giraffes and ostriches while adding an entirely modern edge taking in IKEA, scooters and Brighton’s love of halloumi cheese and couscous.

He’s absolutely silly which is why the children love him with just enough adult irony so the grown-ups are engaged too.

The highest praise I can give him is I’d be happy to see James Campbell without my children in tow – not that they’d let me.
