The energy was infectious at The Dome as Streetfunk presented their sixth annual youth hip-hop showcase.
Established by JP Omari in 2003, Streetfunk deliver dance classes around Sussex for children and adults and Straight Up is the culmination of months of training.
A group of under-fives dressed in superhero costumes opened the show, bringing aah-factor aplenty.
Made up of short segments, the show gradually worked up to the older students, with bags of enthusiasm, challenging choreography and 100-watt smiles.
The audience were alive with excitement throughout, cheering and clapping every routine and even chanting dancer’s names.
Dad dancing got a makeover as Omari performed with the dancer’s fathers a hilarious, Big Reunion-themed dance mash-up.
Headliner Ruff Diamond (Got To Dance 2013 and UK Adult Hip-Hop Champion 2013) and dance troupe Wireless provided spectacular, stand-out performances. However, Straight Up was very long at three-and-a-half hours, but seeing how passionate the children were about dance ensured an entertaining evening.
Also, a projection screen to make clear the names of the groups performing would have been a nice touch.
The talented youngsters did themselves proud and provided a real treat for fans of urban dance and music.
