Dancing In The Streets was a tribute concert, celebrating Motown’s greatest stars and songs.
With flair and infectious enthusiasm, the cast of three male and three female singers and a rich sounding live band rolled out hit after hit.
They paid homage to The Four Tops, The Supremes, Gladys Knight And The Pips, Marvin Gaye and Stevie Wonder.
The strong and versatile vocalists did justice to the timeless songs with up-tempo melodies and often melancholic lyrics. Their pleasingly soulful voices were complimented with energetic and effective choreography, performed with panache and in perfect unison.
The costume changes were plentiful but the set was simplistic, perhaps not to distract from the outstanding on stage performances.
Numbers included Tracks Of My Tears, I Heard It Through The Grapevine, Baby Love, My Girl and Tears Of A Clown.
The audience bobbed about in their seats, eventually unable to resist the urge to stand up and dance.
The ensemble cranked it up a gear for the second half and the theatre erupted with noise, especially impressed with the medley of hits by The Temptations.
This retro revue was an entertaining recreation of Motown music and style and gave the audience a glimpse of the magic of the era.
