Just to be near the man formerly known as Snoop Lion and Snoop Doggy Dogg was enough for many punters as the rap legend stopped in Brighton as part of a short UK tour.

And depending how close they got to Snoop Dogg they might have been able to identify what the reformed gangsta who reputedly smokes 75 joints a day was puffing.

When he finally arrived on stage, gold chains round his neck, statement wraparound shades and a hefty entourage clearing the area, DJ Snoopadelic spent as much time enjoying the fruits of nature with his homies as he did MCing and rapping.

Dr Dre, who was today named the highest paid musician in the world after pulling in $620million this year, hand-picked Snoop to help him put The Chronic together.

DJ Snoopadelic opened with an ode to his West Coast brethren Dre, but the early promise slipped away and the set turned into student club night by numbers.

There was the odd Snoop live vocal over his own tracks (Gin & Juice) or others tunes (Busta Rhymes’ If You Give It To Me) but he played it safe with MIA, Jay-Z, 50 Cent.

In between selecting tunes and g-ing up the crowd, he posed for pictures with lucky fans whisked into the DJ booth while the rest of the crowd took shots on their camera phones.

It made for a regal visit rather than musical landmark – though, to Shooshh’s credit, it was big scoop for the Brighton seafront club.
