They say the best things come in small packages and that was certainly the case with this enchanting show.

It may have been tucked away in the Hawth’s studio while the glitz and glamour of the annual pantomime dominated the main theatre but that just added to its charm.

With just three performers and a small stage with limited props it was an intimate experience which really touched both young and old.

The story was simple. A young boy – called Robin - is worried about moving home but is comforted by a friendly robin (of the bird variety).

The highlight of the show was a captivating display when the boy and bird fly around the stage and up into the audience in puppet form.

Puppetry was mixed with poetry and music while there was also a healthy helping of humour –including a rapping headteacher - to complete a perfect mix.

There is nothing wrong with fire-breathing dragons or flying carriages but this was an antidote to some of those Christmas excesses.

You really can’t beat a good story performed well by actors who have a passion for what they do. The Pied Piper Theatre Company really did know how to connect with young people.
