It's a pleasant surprise to come across a band who defy all attempts to be classified.
Walking into the Spiegeltent with no expectations - and if anything an initial reluctance to stay on finding what looked like a rock band from the 1970s preparing to launch into their performance - it was an unexpected pleasure to discover this Dutch three-piece band.
Lead singer and guitarist Cato van Dyck somehow brought to mind rock goddess Stevie Nicks, and as the intensity of the tracks increased there was a palpable moment of recognition that something special was unfolding.
As Cato's vocals soared, so did the audience, buoyed by the incredible chemistry of these three musicans, who effortlessly combined a rock sensibility with elements of soul, roots blues and trance.
With Jost van Dyck (Cato's brother) on drums and talented guitarist Daniel Da Freez, the trio created a startlingly idiosyncratic sound. Cato's vocals may have an ethereal quality but they managed to pack a huge punch, with her judicious use of a delay pedal adding further layers to the sound.
It's rare for a band playing live to create the kind of vibe normally reserved for top name dance DJs but My Baby nailed it.
In fact they nearly blew the roof off the Spiegeltent. Recommended.
