Why is it that watching cars being crushed is so compelling?
Far from the only spectacular attraction on offer at Scott May's Daredevil Stunt Show, it was most certainly the driving force – not that the rest of the show didn't impress.
Clad in black and red leather, the daredevil crew balanced a moving car and even a 'cool' bus on two wheels, crashed cars into smithereens, and performed heart-racing tricks as they leaped through the air atop quads and motorbikes.
A cleverly customised but still cute Mini Cooper made forward rolls, and there were stunts with fire too, which saw 'fireman' Rinser stagger through a wall of flames and escape unscathed from an exploding coffin.
The monster trucks were also impressive, thundering around the track spitting turf from their wheels. They really came into their own though in the finale where eight cars were battered into oblivion after being repeatedly driven over by Bandit, one of the most impressive vehicles in the show.
That everything looked so easy was down to the performers' skill, but this was life and death stuff.
Fast-paced and thoroughly entertaining, it was also glorious fun.
