Trygve Wakenshaw is a world class physical comedian and his show Kraken was a rollercoaster of mime, which strung together a series of absurd moments.

The audience was swept along on a highly imaginative, grotesque and extremely funny journey; a stream of consciousness that felt like something between a dream, a dance and a whirling dervish.

Wakenshaw’s comedy style was abstract yet very universal and the audience roared with laughter throughout his blend of skits which were all infused with an extravagant violence and a painstaking attention to detail. He moved with the agility and precision of a dancer pushing each physical expression to the limit.

The quality of his observations grounded each mime in reality creating vivid illusions and awakening the imaginations of each audience member as unicorns, eagles and baby elephants populated the empty stage space, to the point that when Wakenshaw prepared a bow and arrow and swung his arm across the audience, people ducked out of the way.

It was Trygve’s vulnerability that won over the audience throughout, right from his wonderfully bold and bizarre entrance to repeated “failures” and imagined injuries, his persona was endearing.

His efforts were rewarded with a well-deserved standing ovation.
