Duckie: Border Force is a club night which explores international borders and questions the dominant ideology of separate nation states.

The night took place as the city celebrated 25 years of the Pride parade and highlighted the greater necessity to discuss freedom of movement for LGBTQI citizens as there are 76 countries in which it is still illegal to be gay, and many more who have discriminatory legislation in place.

The event lead punters through the space in a playful way, welcomed through border control with a visa photo snapped and assigned a starting country.

The main space was divided into four countries with four corresponding visa control areas.

It was necessary to commit various levels of embarrassing acts in order to get your stamp for either Russia, China, Brazil or India.

The concept was great with a wide resonance across the political spectrum, however the execution was a little muted.

The acts chosen to represent each nation on the main stage could definitely have been bolder and more provocative, and more performances could have been infused into the night to give a deeper sense of the issues explored.
