OpenWorks Theatre tells the story of an angry young woman up against the modern age and all the technology it has to throw at her in a translation of Sibylle Berg’s original German play.

And Now…The World portrays a bleak, almost dystopian future of disconnection with a haunting exploration of the lines between loneliness and madness.

The writing is frenetic and funny, reflecting the distractions from various devices which our aggressive superhero heroine has to battle with to recount her hopes and fears. She makes a mess and pushes against the walls, trapped in her tale of unemployment, blogging and violence.

Jennifer Jackson’s performance is bold, portraying a different kind of young woman, one full of rage who “maybe has a bit too much testosterone”.

Her delivery could benefit from more light and shade, with moments of stillness to digest the barrage of energy, poetry and 'on trend’ references that this play is peppered with.

As with the ingenious climbing frame set of whiteboards OpenWorks Theatre have great ideas which aren’t fully realised and expanded.

Jackson illustrates some ideas on the set behind her, however the results feel slapdash.

This angsty text deserves a bolder, more extreme visual support.
