Average White Band has evolved over three decades in the business but remain fresh and original.
The Scottish band brought their own fusion of funk, blues, soul and jazz to Brighton for the opening concert of their latest tour.
From the opening number, I Just Can’t Give You Up, the packed hall knew they were in for something special. The six-man line up did not disappoint.
Singer, Brent Carter has brought a new dimension to the band with his powerful soul. The refreshing thing was that this show was more about enjoying good music than a clash of competing egos.
The band showed they are no pampered rock stars by staying behind at the end of the evening to sign CDs and meet fans.
Each part of the band contributed to the overall sound with two saxes, keyboards and drums adding to the mix. Highlights included Cut the Cake, Love of Your Own and the signature songs, Lets Go Round Again and Bits and Pieces.
A class show to remember.
Five stars
