Sonic energy exploded around Green Door Store, as a dynamic wave of drowned guitars brought Cheatahs’ UK tour to an emphatic close.
Trippy visuals were projected onto a screen, as the venue filled up. Huge expectations surrounded this show, with the eager crowd preparing themselves for a night of ear-bleeding noise-rock.
The four-piece seamlessly played through most recent LP, Mythologies, during an excruciatingly loud, hour long showcase.
A sea of head banging promptly emerged, as Marc Raue’s high-octane drumming laid the fundaments, just about breaking through the dynamic array of jangly guitars.
“It’s that time” guitarist Nathan Hewitt confirmed, before bursting into a blistering version of, arguably, the group’s most recognised track, The Swan.
A brilliantly worked tempo-drop during the breakdown spread a sense of anxiety around the room, before the melodic mess of guitar drones slowly rebuilt.
An encore was demanded, which seemed to surprise the band, who took a minute to work out what to play. All members seemed genuinely touched by the reception they received, continuously offering their thanks.
A few tuning issues failed to mar a hugely impressive performance, which will leave the ears of onlookers pleasantly ringing for days.
