Promoter Melting Vinyl’s final show of 2015 featured the up-and-coming Mancunian duo Bernard + Edith, along with local supports.
Opener Tiger Lion, the moniker for French singer-songwriter Clementine Blue, was an exercise in simple, delicately put-together arrangements, with just the use of drums, acoustic guitar, extra percussion and bass.
There was an infectious vibe to the whole thing, with no need to hide nor put on an air about the enjoyment of being up on stage and performing.
Foreign Skin, the moniker for electronic producer Flavia Aliverti, was an audio-visual treat.
While the visuals passed from 2001-esque moving galaxies, to symmetrical prisms and cubist structures, the music cascaded in and out, mixing ambient soundscapes, hip-hop beats, and some seriously deep bass.
Headliners Bernard + Edith took to the stage with their signature dreamy, dark electronica.
Even live, they were able to manipulate the haunting, rich landscapes which make their music on record so special and all-encompassing.
The combination of Nick (Bernard)'s infinite use of colour and texture in the arrangements, along with Greta (Edith)'s deep and beguiling voice, created a beautiful sonic world.
Five stars
