Brighton based bands ruled at the Patterns on Saturday night with hip-hop outfit Normanton Street topping the bill for the launch of their latest EP, Life’s Real.

Fresh from performing live on Juice and Radio Reverb, the Streets attracted a big turn out and the venue was packed by the time they hit the stage with their mix of rap and rock.

Lead singer, Phoebe provided the melody with her jazz blues tones and Nicholson the contrasting spoken lyrics. Pleased to see they included favourite, Take Time in the set.

Seven-piece funk outfit, One Eyed Jacks were a bonus with their eye catching live show and powerful soul funk vocals from frontman, Karl Benjamin – not to mention some outstanding backing singing and bass playing.

Also in the line-up were newcomers, Lebeaux – another local hip-hop rap outfit – who are earning plaudits wherever they play.

Brighton duo, Frankie Stew and Harvey Gunn opened proceedings.

This was not an evening for reflection but one for getting caught up in the energy and flamboyance of four contrasting and complementary acts with almost three hours of live music and barely a moment to catch breath. A fun night.
