WE Are Scientists signed off their UK tour in style with lead guitarist and front man Keith Murray finishing the encore in the crowd at Concorde 2.

The three-piece simmered like a pot on the stove and eased the audience in with a punchy set list before it boiled over turning the intimate venue into a rampant mosh pit.

Interaction with the crowd, although sometimes painfully unfunny, was heart-felt, impromptu and guided fans through songs dating back more than 15 years.

Probably the most staggering thing about their performance is that they never changed instruments once – with Murray and bassist Chris Cain holding on to the same guitars throughout.

Despite this, they went from producing blasé bass licks to blistering anthems with just the tap of a pedal.

While mere mortals struggle their way around a fretboard, Murray’s left hand was like a gecko on a hot tin roof.

By the encore, a mass pit of burly blokes were throwing their weight about feet from the front of the stage and a conveyor belt of crowd surfers were making their way onto people’s shoulders, to the front of the crowd, over the barrier and back around to the back of the queue.

Murray wanted in, and performed his final solo in amongst his adoring fans.
