Based on the picture book by Claire Freedman and Ben Cort, creators of Aliens Love Underpants, this creative children’s show was full of high-kicking energy and humour.

With original music created by Big Wooden Horse Theatre, from The Secret Saturday Dance to Monstersaurus, the cast of three injected some rock n’ roll singing and dancing in to each scene.

School boy inventor Monty was played convincingly by Harrisson Spiers.  Monty makes monsters in his invention machine whilst his mum is cleaning or out jogging.

Various yucky ingredients combined to create the monsters, including mouldy cheese and bellybutton fluff, which youngsters enthusiastically brought to the stage from pots left on seats.

The results were Bogablob and the Dust Monster which received some “wows” as they appeared in puffs of smoke and moved realistically along the counter top with no visible puppet operatives.

The monsters told amusing anecdotes in hilarious accents, such as Dust Monster’s Texan drawl before they launched in to a monster fight.

The beeping and whizzing of the invention machine also made great sound effects, although there was a bit of interference from the mics at times.

When the giant Montersaurus saves the day, he, Monty and Mum finish with an all-singing, dancing panto-style climax which the young audience loved.
