Little girl Sophie Bucket, who lives with her granny on Mulberry Farm in Somerset, is lonely until a package containing a giant sparkling egg arrives for her.

Based on the children’s story by Bill Davies, My Pet Monster And Me was a colourful, light-hearted show for young children.

Sophie sang, “I’m a proper farmer’s girl,” as she did her chores. But then cried, “I’ve got all the animals to keep me busy but what I want more than anything is a pet.”

The cast of three sang, danced and operated puppets of various creatures from Boris the cockerel to Jess the sheepdog and Arabella the donkey.

Chatting to audience members throughout, the lively performers also twice plucked a reluctant dad from his seat to be "milked" as Daisy the cow. The audience also got "watered" with a hose pipe, a welcome cooling as the tent became uncomfortably hot.

However, as cabbage-chomping George the monster hatched and grew, there were plenty of poo references to keep the young audience in their seats.

This new show by Blunderbus Theatre Company benefited from colourful scenery and bubbly characters.

Finally Sophie sang: “I was lonely before but from now on it’s my pet monster and me”.
