The film Black Swan, GHD hair straighteners and Brighton. Three things that seem to confuse and enrage Russell Kane’s proud Essex dad, Dave. A true alpha male does not watch films about ballerinas or straighten his hair.

And as for a visit to our city, Kane Senior’s words of wisdom were “Be careful in Brighton, son.” Apparently it’s “full of them”... “Them”, we got the impression from Kane, strutting about on stage with his chest puffed out, were definitely not your stereotypical alpha males.

Clad in yellow T-shirt, red jeans slipping off his skinny frame, Kane has obviously had many sleepless nights coming to terms with Dave’s White Van Man opinions.

Kane paced and pranced in front of the audience for the duration of the set with a fantastic energy. But it was Dave and his musings who took centre stage.

While Kane’s family was the basis for much material, there were plenty of other brilliant observations fizzing away: tales of attempts to get over his ex earlier this year and indestructible Eighties microwaves, to name a few.

And don’t forget the delights of North Laine. We can only guess what Dave would make of a vegetarian shoe shop.
