Ben Caplan
Green Door Store, Trafalgar Street Arches, Brighton, Sunday, January 10, 7.30pm, £7, 01273 606312
SINCE the release of his debut album In The Time Of The Great Remembering in 2011, hirsute Canadian singer-songwriter Ben Caplan has performed more than 1,000 shows across the world.
Possessing the sort of deep smokey blues voice that sounds like it has seen and experienced it all, Caplan released his second album with band The Casual Smokers last year.
Birds With Broken Wings continues his combination of melodramatic lyricism with guitar, upright bass, piano, drums and Eastern European-inspired strings.
His live show, which has seen him support the likes of Grizzly Bear, Dirty Projectors, The Staves and Blondie, is sprinkled with a certain amount of humour and charm.
Support from Paul Murray and Taryn Kawaja.
