They are arguably still remembered for 2004’s The Rat, which was voted at number 20 on Pitchfork Media’s list of 500 Top Tracks of the 2000s, but The Walkmen are now on their sixth album, Lisbon.

The album sees the band continue their obsession of using vintage gear to make vintage sounds. While recording they followed the template set by Sun Records, the Memphis label that launched Johnny Cash and Elvis, and used only one guitar, simple percussion, a big voice and a bass.

“The idea was to be really focused on the melody and the lyric,” bass player Walt Martin told The Guide.

“We obsess over old instruments. We think they sound better and they look better too.”

Having recently toured with Kings Of Leon and Vampire Weekend, whose frontman Ezra Koenig was once a roadie for the band, the New Yorkers head out as headliners supported by Treefight For Sunlight.
