As four kids from Cambridge, New Zealand (population 12,000), The Datsuns didn't feel like their prospects warranted a name like The Cadillacs or The Rolls Royces when they first formed so the humble Datsuns it was.
In retrospect they should have had more confidence. Ever since Jack White saw them perform their trademark chaotic live show during a White Stripes tour and duly hired them as his support act in early 2002, their prospects have proved otherwise.
Now after two albums and an EP, The Datsuns's third album is ready for release. Smoke And Mirrors at last establishes the breadth of what The Datsuns are about musically on record.
Here is all the manic excitement of 2002's debut with a bigger, bolder, more classic sound.
