Imogen Heap reckons her voice has "a strong personality, a lot of colour to it" and she likes to dress accordingly.

Her dressingup box for touring, for instance, includes six-inch pink feathers and bright orange lipstick.

Out of the entire cast and crew of The Lion The Witch And The Wardrobe, meanwhile, this idiosyncratic singer was the only person who dressed up for the premiere.

Heap had contributed the twinkling snow song which played as the credits rolled. And her beguiling blend of classical, pop and electronica is about to be heard on the big screen again with the release of the Tony Goldwyn film Last Kiss.

The a cappella, multi-layered Hide And Seek was originally picked up by the makers of cult teen drama the OC, a show whose emotionally fraught scenes have the power to turn featured tracks into international hits. And the backing of Radio 1's Zane Lowe didn't do it any harm either.

One-time singer with the electropop duo Frou Frou, Heap now works alone in a South London studio bedecked with butterfly fairy lights.

"I got into producing before I got into singing," she says.

"When I was 12 I went to boarding school and the music department had this little room with an old Atari and some early sequencing software. So I just started experimenting."

Her sample-heavy debut album proper, Speak For Yourself, was only released in the UK in May. Six months on and she's graduated from Komedia to the Dome Concert Hall - whether her vocal quirks and handclaps can fill it remains to be seen.
