One of the great literary characters, the cantankerous Henry Horatio Hobson is brought to life by Coronation Street's John Savident in this classic English comedy.
The year is 1880 and Henry runs a successful bootmaker's shop in Salford. A widower with a weakness for a drink, he tries to get the better of his three bumptious daughters when he bans them marrying to avoid the expensive matter of a dowry.
But his eldest daughter Maggie rebels, with dramatic results.
