"A lot of comics want to make a point," says Pablo Francisco. "You know, they're right and everybody's wrong. They're smart and everybody else is stupid. Mine is a sketch show, basically Saturday Night Live divided by the square root of Benny Hill, with just a dab of The Young Ones."

The written word barely does justice to the LA-based comedian's dizzying array of vocal effects and celebrity impersonations. He learnt his craft at the Improvisation Comedy Club in his native Arizona, picking the brains of everyone from Andrew Dice Clay to Robin Williams to unravel the "mysteries of the art".

"Everybody can do Kermit The Frog or Arnold Schwarzenegger," he explains. "So I thought, let's spin it up a little bit. How about you do Arnie as a little kid? Or Kermit in a drug deal?

"If there is a bit of a theme, it's Who are you trying to fool?' Bon Jovi - please stop making those agonised faces. And the infomercial people - Are you sick and tired of biting into fresh fruit?'"

Well known in the US through his HBO specials, slots on Jay Leno's show and appearances in animated comedy Family Guy, he has also gained an international profile via MySpace and YouTube.

Francisco has been called "one of the internet's most viral comics", with a MySpace Comedy page ranking in the top 20 out of 33,000, receiving more than one million video views and attracting 50,000 new visitors per month.

"MySpace has been good for me, But some people are on there all the time," he says. "You have people emailing you saying, I've got my hands down my trousers and I wrote three songs on my Casio keyboard. Can you help me?' So I've created a separate MySpace persona to have a little harmless fun."

Other targets include Jackie Chan's imcomprehensible dialogue and rappers who can't enunciate ("I'm gnna dwwwn reet uh huh yeah...PROACTIVE") or use bizarre similes ("I'm gonna clean it up like a parking lot").

Francisco's impersonation of Don LaFontaine, the voice of countless Hollywood movie trailers, is his most famous, although its success has begun to cause the comedian some problems recently.

"My friend called me up and said, Do you do it for pornos?'" he laughs. "They were serious. There's some idiot who does it for porno trailers."

Despite Tuesday's Komedia gig being one of only five UK dates, including a sell-out show at London's Shepherd Bush Empire, Francisco has gone to the trouble of writing some new material for our shores.

"I shouldn't say it but I respect everyone's job except that Palace Guard's," he says. "He went into the military. He trained his whole life. For what? Walking with his legs right up? If he was in the woods in a battle, I think he'd be easy to spot."
