The nationwide marches protesting against the war in Iraq have been the starting point for this new, modern version of Shakespeare’s Henry V.
A cast of 14 to 20 year olds from West Sussex Youth Theatre will be bringing Henry’s speeches on the battlefield of Agincourt up to date, with a newly cut and edited version of the play.
This rendering is set in the imaginary kingdom of Qashtun, a nation the King of England believes he has a distant bloodline to.
“The parallels to the experiences of our soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan is clear,” says director Toby Wilsher. “The opening scene sees Henry trying to find a legal excuse to invade France. The war is undertaken without any real sense of what to do next.”
