Sixties icon Honor Blackman stars as Evelyn Townsend in this warm-hearted romantic comedy about a couple of well-to-do 70-somethings reunited 50 years on from the end of their youthful love affair.

"I am doing my best not to be too glamorous," says the 79 year-old star who is best known for her role as Pussy Galore in Goldfinger and Cath Gale in The Avengers. "Evelyn is not meant to be a sexpot. She dresses decently and she is quite proper."

Even so, Evelyn is the object of Sir Cecil Warburton's (Francis Matthews) affections - and has been for years. When he hears that Evelyn's husband Reggie has passed away, he jumps at the chance to win her back.

With marriage on his mind Cecil arranges to meet Evelyn in his garden, under the same beech tree where he kissed her many years earlier.

However, Cecil's expectations of a joyous engagement are foiled as it becomes clear he hasn't actually considered the fact Evelyn might refuse his proposal. And has anybody consulted Hawkins (Michael Stroud), Cecil's long-suffering and opinionated butler?

The cantankerous Hawkins sees Evelyn as something of a threat to the cosy domestic arrangement he has with his employer.

With echoes of PG Wodehouse and Oscar Wilde, Roger Redfarn's touring revival has been well received throughout its tour and will undoubtedly benefit from Honor's presence. She says she was approached three times by the director before she agreed to take the part.

When the tour was shortened to six weeks - her "absolute limit" to being away from her Notting Hill home - she happily acquiesced. "I was thrilled and I am really enjoying it," she says. "It is a delightful piece."

Still the recipient of her fair share of fan mail ("it goes on forever"), Honor recalls her days as a Bond girl fondly.

"It is hard to appreciate what an impact films like that have, especially Bond films which go on and on. It was a terrific time and it goes without saying that Sean Connery was great to work with. He is the sexiest man I have ever met - and my husband was pretty damn sexy."

It was not quite as exotic as anyone who has seen the film might think, however. "I only went as far as Northolt Airport," says Honor. "That is where Pinewood Studios were. Everyone thinks I was spending time in Louisiana on a stud farm, but I wasn't."

The secret to her success, she says, is confidence - something she feels she has earned over the years. "It doesn't happen by accident," she says. "Confidence comes from aiming high and doing your best, as well as having a good make-up person and hairdresser.

"Once you have some success behind you, you can build on it - but then again, actors always think they could have done better. You are never really satisfied but you go on trying.

"You don't want to be smug. That would be a disaster."
