THE PANEL on Good Morning Britain have poked fun at former colleague Piers Morgan following his National Television Award nomination.

Piers, who left the ITV show in March, has been shortlisted for the best television presenter prize.

The Newick-born presenter will compete against Ant and Dec, Bradley Walsh and This Morning stars Holly Willoughby and Alison Hammond.

On Tuesday’s Good Morning Britain show, co-presenter Charlotte Hawkins sparked a discussion between hosts after mentioning the nomination.

Kevin Maguire, Daily Mirror Associate Editor and guest commentator on the show, said: "Who was he? It rings a bell, the name. Who was that?"

Daily Mail columnist Amanda Platell responded: "Was that some guy who used to work here?"

Kevin then joked: “Oh did he? Did he use to work here? Oh, that's who it was!"

Kate then recalled how Piers had previously been nominated and was "very cross" when he didn't win the award.

She commented that it would be "very good" if he won this time, before Kevin commented that Piers was "permanently cross".

Dr Hilary Jones added: "It would be ironic if he wins it when he's off-air."

Piers Morgan is not the only Sussex resident to be up for an award with Katie Price shortlisted in the new category of authored documentary for Katie Price: Harvey and Me.

Manchester United player Marcus Rashford is also in the running for his BBC show Feeding Britain’s Children, while Rob Burrow: My Year With MND, Roman Kemp: Our Silent Emergency and Kate Garraway’s Finding Derek are also in the running.

The National Television Awards, which are due to be hosted by Joel Dommett, will take place in London on September 9.
