TIME is running out to secure a spot in one of the UK’s most picturesque marathons.
The 2021 Beachy Head Marathon will see runners take in views of the South Downs and the chalk cliffs of Beachy Head itself.
Registrations for the marathon close on Thursday, October 7, with fewer than 100 spaces left.
The race itself is due to take on Saturday, October 23.
Formerly known as the Seven Sisters Marathon, the Beachy Head Marathon is one of the biggest off-road marathons in the UK.
The 26.2-mile race is popular for its scenic and challenging route through the South Downs National Park countryside.
The Beachy Head Half Marathon is due to take place on Sunday, October 17. Registrations close for that race on Thursday, September 30.
Entries for the 10k race, which is due to commence on Sunday, October 24, will close on Thursday, October 7.
The 10k run comprises a route of breath-taking views, taking a shorter looping course across the Downs to Belle Tout Lighthouse and back.
Eastbourne Borough Council lead cabinet member for tourism and culture councillor Margaret Bannister said with spaces filling up fast for all three events, booking late may mean missing out on the events.
“Entries will close as soon as capacities are filled, so I would encourage those wishing to take part to avoid waiting until the last minute to enter and sign up as soon as possible to ensure you don’t miss out,” she said.
“Set against the backdrop of Eastbourne’s stunning seafront and coastline, these events have proved hugely popular over recent years with first time runners and veteran runners alike.”
The course for all three events is advertised as suitable for people of all abilities “from beginners, walkers and joggers to world class runners”.
“The Beachy Head Half Marathon and 10K in particular are perfect for those who are getting into fitness or looking to fundraise for a charity close to their heart,” event organisers said.
Organisers are also looking for volunteers to assist with the events on race day.
