A NEW campaign to help people get more active is offering free group walks and runs.

Brighton-based charity The Crew Club launched the ‘Choose To Move’ initiative on September 20.

The project aims to help those living in and around Whitehawk get more active by organising free walks and runs for all ages and abilities.

The project is supported by Active Sussex, Sports England and NHS Charities.

The Crew Club says movement is essential for physical and mental wellbeing.

“It makes us happier and healthier and it's also a great way to meet and connect with other local people,” a spokesman said.

Choose to Move aims to create a family of walkers, joggers and runners that inspire and help each other to move more by using a free guide with maps of Whitehawk.

Each map will have different walking and running routes ranging from 1km to 5km and will be available online with how-to-use videos.

A pocket-sized hard copy is also available at The Crew Club bases at Wellsbourne Healthcare CIC and St Cuthman’s Church.

The walks will be led by qualified walk and run leaders from The Crew Club and will be suitable for all levels of ability. There will also be a regular buggy walk.

A family friendly 5K walk for ‘TAKEPART’ is scheduled for 10.30am on Saturday, September 25, where walkers will be heading up the Whitehawk Hill nature reserve.
