A man fended off a gang after they tried to rob him outside his home.

The victim was alerted to the danger by his dog who barked at the three men lurking near the front door.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident which happened on Thursday night in Shoreham.

The man had returned from work to his house in Hammy Way at around 5.20pm. He had taken a cash till from his van into the house when his dog started barking.

He went out to investigate at which point the gang demanded money from him.

One of the robbers threw liquid towards his face, but he managed to fight back and all three ran off empty-handed. A police spokesperson said: "It would appear that this was an attempted robbery by three men who had seen the victim take the till from his van into the house.

“He defended himself, despite having something thrown towards his face, which fortunately did not cause any harm or injuries.”

One of the suspects is described as being 5ft10ins of slim build and said to have spoken with an Asian accent.

He was wearing a dark grey hooded top with the hood up and a grey scarf covering his face.

The other two are described as 6ft, of slim build, and wore dark clothing with their faces covered.
