Oscar winner Kate Winslet has packed up her trophies and moved to Sussex.

The Hollywood star has snapped up a £2 million country home near Midhurst, with her new husband Ned RocknRoll.

Kate’s uncle, Mark Bridger, who lives in Earley, Berkshire, confirmed to The Argus that his niece had moved to Sussex.

“It is in Sussex and it is near Petersfield, near the Hampshire border, but I do not know what it is,” he said.

“Her parents did not know she had got married but I am not allowed to say any more.”

He said Kate’s parents, Roger and Sally Winslet, who live in Reading, Berkshire, were not currently with their daughter. Ned, who changed his name from Ned Abel Smith, met Kate on Virgin tycoon Richard Branson’s Necker Island.

He had previously been married to the Hon Eliza Pearson, daughter of Lord and Lady Cowdray.

The couple married in a Druid ceremony in Cowdray Park, near Midhurst, in 2009.

The estate agents who marketed the property, now taken off the website, wrote that it was “a rare opportunity to purchase a delightful country house amidst 5.72 acres of beautiful down land in the peaceful hamlet”.

Petersfield Tourist Board suggested Kate could take part in “mountain biking trails and the excitement of sports such as paragliding”.

It added: “Sussex has market towns well known for antique shops, art galleries |and designer gift shops. Chichester has a renowned festival theatre with high profile productions.”

“There are many fun activities such as the famous Lewes Bonfire Night celebrations. Educational attractions include the Weald and Downland Open Air Museum and Fishbourne Roman Palace and Gardens.”
