Plans for a cultural focal point in a prime seafront site have been given the go-ahead.
Hove Civic Society was seeking landowner consent from Brighton and Hove City Council for a plinth opposite Grand Avenue, Hove.
It will display a series of temporary sculptures and changing art installations.
Today (January 10) the local authority's economic development and culture committee gave unanimous approval to the plan.
Councillor Geoffrey Bowden, chairman of economic development and culture committee, said: “The seafront plinth will become a cultural focal point for Hove and continue the long tradition of statues and monuments in the city.
"I think it’s a great idea and I love it. I know the Society have been working on this for some time and I really hope it happens.”
Any plinth plans will still be subject to planning consent.
