As a bicycle campaigner, I have followed recent correspondence in your paper with some interest. I have become deeply concerned with the tone your Letters page seems to be setting.
Complaints about the Old Shoreham Road cycle lane being “unused” should be validated – I have been told by two locals that it’s heavily used by schoolchildren. Do people drive down empty motorway in the dead of night and complain that is a waste?
Secondly how is any of this encouraging people to make the switch? If anything, in my experience, it scares people from cycling. I would like to see a change in attitude from people. Cycling is still only 3% of traffic in Brighton and Hove.
