I am writing to discuss previous articles in The Argus relating to water meters.

I had a leak outside my house. The leak was in the highway before my property.

This leak had been going on for a long time and not detected by the water company.

The leak increased my bill by about £250, which I would not have noticed until I looked at my meter and realised it was ticking up even though I wasn’t using any water.

If you have a water meter, check it regularly.

If you have a leak, it could be costing you hundreds of pounds and you may not notice it. You could be paying extra on your bill.

Also make sure the meter you are billed for is actually your meter as when multiple meters are outside a property, some have been shown to feed the house next door.

If in any doubt, I suggest calling your water company.

They will send someone to check it for you, free of charge.
