What has happened to the art of personal communication?

When telephoning, I am sick of being subjected to music I do not like and then being told to speak to a machine.

Also, it seems writing letters has become a forgotten art, as I seldom receive replies to mine.

Admittedly technology has greatly advanced, but it has put an end to the personal touch.

Not everyone owns a computer.
