Jobs could be created in Sussex after supermarket chain Morrisons said it was buying nearly 50 Blockbuster stores.
The failed film rental chain went into administration earlier this month, with administrator Deloitte announcing it was to shut 164 stores last week, including those in Chichester, Hove and Burgess Hill.
The branches in Peacehaven, Hastings and Shoreham had already been earmarked for closure.
Morrisons has now announced it is to buy 49 of the 164 stores, with the creation of 1,000 jobs.
It is planning to use the buildings to open Morrisons M convenience stores by late summer.
The locations of the stores have not yet been released but those towns affected in the county will hope the jobs are created locally to offset those lost by Blockbusters’ demise.
