Peter Baxter referred to the 1973 film Soylent Green (Letters, February 14) in which overpopulation compels the universal consumption of processed food (actually made from something a lot worse than horsemeat).
It might interest readers to know that the author of the book, Make Room, Make Room, on which the film was based, was science-fiction writer Harry Harrison.
Although he was an American, Harry spent much of his life abroad and lived in Rottingdean until a few years ago.
He was a regular at the Mitre Pub in Brighton, where a group of science-fiction readers and writers used to meet.
Harry was a witty and entertaining man with a great fund of stories in the numerous languages he spoke fluently.
Sadly, he died last year at the age of 87.
