Paying benefits directly into an account is not suitable for everyone.
I would stand no chance of remembering an account password or number since my heart attack. I can’t walk far due to leg disabilities.
As for remembering when payments are due or not, I would not know.
With a giro in hand, I know it is due and if I am unwell or the weather is not good I go without, sometimes for weeks.
I can get to the Post Office when things are good. For everywhere else I have to go by car as I can’t travel on buses.
I understand the powers that be want to save money and wish to force claimants to interact with financial services whose only interest is making money, but I cannot spare any for them.
I feel all they wish to do is put us in the system and forget about us.
So much for a caring service. What happened to looking out for the vulnerable?
