An Albion season ticket-holder whose heart stopped twice outside the stadium said he does not know why it happened – as he has been to more nail-baiting games.
Terry Allbrighton, 64, of Edith Avenue, Peacehaven, collapsed outside the American Express Community Stadium following the Seagulls’ victory against Hull earlier this month.
His heart was restarted thanks to defibrillators located at the stadium, provided by the Sussex Heart Charity.
Now Mr Allbrighton, dad to Susan, 38, and Paul, 34, is recovering at home.
The retired electrical engineer said: “If it wasn’t for the medical team at the Amex and the defibrillator equipment available, the outcome could have been very different.
“I realise how lucky I am and I would like to place on record my thanks and appreciation to all the people who helped me, and to the people who have sent messages of goodwill.”
His wife Mary, 66, said: “He only survived because he was at the Albion – his heart stopped twice.”
Rob Galloway, an A&E consultant and crowd doctor at the Amex, said: “We have a set up deliberately planned to deal with these eventualities.
“It is not just due to luck.”
