For those who are lucky enough to work in the city, it is one of the most inspiring locations in the world.

But competition for jobs in Brighton and Hove is fierce – and getting more intense.

A global social media company has identified the city as one of the most popular places to work in the world.

Peter Rigano, an insights analyst at LinkedIn, used his expertise to find out where professionals who love their work live.

He mined the LinkedIn database looking for English-speaking professionals around the globe to see how many included “love”, “passion” and “dream job” in their LinkedIn profiles.

Brighton and Hove was listed third, beating London and Queensland in Australia.

Danni Craker, from Craker Business Solutions in Ventnor Villas, Hove, said: “I love living and working in Brighton and Hove because there is an enthusiasm for enjoying life.

'Enterprising spirit'

“I moved back to Brighton and Hove over four years ago so I could start a small business doing something I love.”

Martin Williams, a lawyer with Mayo Wynne Baxter in Dyke Road, said: “What’s not to love about working in Brighton and Hove?

“The independent and enterprising spirit is strong, providing a wide variety of options for the resident and business person alike.”

But the news comes as figures show unemployment in the county has defied the downward trend.

Job seekers

The number of people in Sussex claiming jobseeker’s allowance rose by 1,581 last month.

Brighton and Hove’s jobless total rose by 115 to 6,172, its highest level since last August.

Michael Divers, the boss at Bold HR, in Victoria Street, Brighton, said the most concerning trend was youth unemployment.

He said: “The number of young people in the UK who are out of work is very worrying.”
