Student protesters have smashed their way into a University of Sussex building during protests today (March 25).

Approximately 1,000 students marched through the campus earlier today.

Now a hard core of 500 remain outside Sussex House where a group have smashed through doors before making their way into the building.

Argus reporter Ben James, reporting from the scene, said protesters are letting off fireworks and flares outside the building.

Police in riot gear are on standby, with five police vans, two CCTV vans and four police cars on site.

Officers attempted to disperse the crowd away from the doors of Sussex House, but moved back when it became clear people were becoming hurt in a crush.
