A brave shop worker chased an armed robber believed to be responsible for four raids.

The Co-op employee, named only as Roozbeh, was threatened by a man who walked behind the counter of the St George’s Road store in Brighton.

The robber was wielding a knife and demanded Roozbeh handed over money.

But instead of giving up the cash Roozbeh chased the armed robber out of the Kemp Town shop on Saturday evening.

Roozbeh was not working yesterday (May 12), but a colleague described what happened.

He said: “The robber walked in with a knife. He went behind the counter and held the knife up.

“I think Roozbeh had two options – stay there or run.

“It was pretty shocking.”

The robber did not manage to make off with anything in the raid, which followed three other similar crimes – two in the same road – in a week.

Threshers in St George's Road was targeted at 9.10pm on Thursday and a second Threshers store in the street was robbed on Sunday, May 5.

During the first robbery a man entered the shop and approached the member of staff, threatening her with a knife. The suspect stole money and left, heading west along St George’s Road.

The following day, Monday, May 6, at about 9.45pm a man entered the Co-op store in Carden Avenue, Hollingbury, Brighton, and threatened staff members with a knife. He once again stole money.

On Thursday a man entered the second Threshers in St George’s Road.

When the woman cashier said she could not open the safe the man showed her a knife and walked round to the cash drawer, taking a small amount of cash.

The suspect fled the shop and headed north along Sudeley Place.

Darren Mills, 33, has been charged with three counts of robbery and one attempted robbery, four counts of possessing an offensive weapon and escaping lawful custody on April 25.

He is due to appear at Brighton Magistrates Court this morning (May 13).
