A run-down post office has been sold at auction.

The empty Old Halston post office on Priory Road in Hastings sold for £65,000 on June 6.

The property had originally been a shop with a three-bedroom flat above. It was taken over by a sweet company and became known as “the popcorn factory” before being abandoned about ten years ago.

Councillor Peter Chowney said: “It’s very good news that the property has now been sold and we will try to ascertain the new owner’s intentions for it.

“This is a large empty property in a prominent position in the town and we want to see it restored and put back into use.”
