With reference to the proposed floodlit pitch development at Dorothy Stringer school, Headteacher Mr Bradford claims that, “Tree planting is an essential constituent of the project” (The Argus, July 19).
Aside from the obvious contradiction that it also requires the widespread felling of trees, he neglects to mention that this development will also destroy an area previously planted by the school as compensation for the environmental damage caused by an extension of the sports hall. So much for that safeguard.
How long before the next replanted area is similarly dismissed and destroyed to accommodate further development if this destructive scheme goes through?
Speaking as a keen sportsman and user of the site, I strongly oppose this inappropriate proposal and suggest the money would be better spent in keeping the existing pitches in better condition. Wildlife should not have to suffer for my sporting pleasure.
